Russian Company Demonstrates Working Hoverbike

Scorpion 3 Is A Single-Seat Marriage Between A Motorcycle And A Quadcopter

We all remember the scene from Return of the Jedi in which Luke Skywalker goes zipping through a forest being chased by stormtroopers on "hoverbikes" ... basically airborne motorcycles.

Well, with the advancements in motor and battery technology, such proof-of-concept machines are becoming more and more common. Among the latest entries is the Scorpion 3, which was recently demonstrated by Russian company Hoversurf.

SUAS news reports that the Scorpion 3 is a single-seat aircraft based on a quadcopter design. It is electric powered, and the quadcopter design gives the aircraft quite a bit of speed and agility. While it can be operated by a pilot, it is also an OPV that can carry up to 200 pounds.

The Scorpion is being touted as a "extreme sports" vehicle, but it's potential for other uses is fairly evident. A YouTube video shows a concept of an air taxi based on the same concept.
