Aircraft Tire Explosion Kills Two Workers and Injures a Third

The Incident Occurred At Delta’s TechOps Facility in Georgia

Two Delta Airlines maintenance workers were killed and one more was left in critical condition after an aircraft tire explosion. The fatal incident occurred in the wheel and brake shop at a Delta Airlines TechOps maintenance facility. Delta has stated that they are currently working with Atlanta authorities to conduct a full investigation.

ZeroAvia Advances Electric Propulsion With $4.2M FAA Grant

Sustainable Transition Discretionary Grant Supports Development

ZeroAvia has been awarded a $4.2 million grant from the FAA to support further development and validation of its electric propulsion system. The funding will come from the Inflation Reduction Act through the FAA’s Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition discretionary grant program for Low-Emission Aviation Technology (FAST Tech). The R&D will be done in ZeroAvia’s Everett, Washington, propulsion center on design, fabrication, and testing of its proprietary electric motor and inverter with the goal to achieve certification and commercialization for 2-5 megawatt powertrains.

(Witness) Heard A Loud “Bang” And Observed Debris Separating From The Helicopter As It Descended

On July 05, 2024, about 0801 central daylight time, a Rotorway Scorpion 133 helicopter, N51017, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Andale, Kansas. The pilot was fatally injured. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot’s family, the flight originated from the pilot’s personal residence, and he was conducting maneuvers in preparation for a helicopter rating check ride.
