Young Eagles Surpasses 2.4 Million Flights Given

More Than 38,000 Kids Flown In 2024 So Far

Young Eagles is the EAA’s youth aviation education program, giving flights at no charge to adolescents and teens along with a parent to stimulate interest in flying and aviation careers. In 2024 more than 38,000 kids were given flights, with the typically active fall flight period under way. We can’t wait to see what the full-year total will end up being.

HEC Dual Cargo Hook For Bell 429 Receives FAA STC

Onboard Systems’ TALON Hook Approved For Retrofit Or New Installations

Vancouver, Washington,-based Onboard Systems International announced that its TALON® dual cargo hook systems for the Bell 429 aircraft has earned its Supplemental Type Certification (STC) from the FAA. The systems meet 14 CFR Part 27.865 requirements for human external cargo (HEC) operations and can be installed as retrofits for existing single and dual hook equipment or as new installations on aircraft without prior hook systems.

First FAA-Exempt Electric LSA To Be Used For Flight Training

Pipistrel announced that the Eco-Aviation Foundation International has taken delivery of the first Velis Electro and it will be used for flight training under an FAA airworthiness exemption. Eco-Aviation Foundation is a nonprofit group dedicated to promoting clean and quiet aviation worldwide and anticipates receiving its second Velis Electro in November 2024.

Flights To Take Place At Scholes International Airport

The Battleship Texas Foundation and the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) are partnering up in to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the turning point of World War II. The event was originally planned to feature the CAF’s C-47 Ready 4 Duty in a flight across the Atlantic to the Normandy beaches but maintenance issues intervened to prevent the flight.

Blackhawk Group Receives FAA Part 145 Certification

Broomfield Performance Center Latest Addition

The Blackhawk Group announced its Blackhawk Performance Center at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport (KBJC) in Broomfield, Colorado, has received FAA Part 145 Repair Station Certification. The facility joins Blackhawk’s Columbia, Missouri, Performance Center as service locations for light turbine aircraft. Other Blackhawk Performance Center locations include two Avex Performance Centers in Camaraillo, California, and also at KBJC in Broomfield, which provide services for TBM operators.

NTSB Prelim: RANS S14

Pilot Departed From Teague Municipal Airport (68F) And, Shortly Afterward, The Engine Lost Power

On September 20, 2024, about 1648 central daylight time, an unregistered Rans S-14 Airaile light sport airplane, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Teague, Texas. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot departed from Teague Municipal Airport (68F) and, shortly afterward, the engine lost power. The airplane was observed to turn back toward the airport apparently in an attempt by the pilot to return for an emergency landing.

Glidescope Intercept Altitude The published minimum altitude to intercept the glideslope in the intermediate segment of an instrument approach. Government charts use the lightning bolt symbol to identify this intercept point. This intersection is called the Precise Final Approach fix (PFAF). ATC directs a higher altitude, the resultant intercept becomes the PFAF.
