City Leaders Express Concerns About The Potential Closure Of Contract Towers
Seventy Mayors and community leaders from around the country whose communities would be affected by the FAA’s potential, scheduled closure of contract air traffic control towers have written a letter to FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. The letter expresses concern over the impact of these potential closures on their communities, and highlights the vital role of local airports to businesses, organizations, emergency services, and the economy as a whole.

The FAA has issued a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB CE-13-07R1) concerning potential in-flight fires on Cessna T206H airplanes associated with an exhaust system issue. The agency says that there is the potential for in-flight fire as a result of failure of the V-band coupling (V-band clamp) securing the tailpipe to the turbocharger or the wastegate elbow to the wastegate valve.

Britain's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has told Heathrow Airport that it must cut the increases in fees it charges airlines in an effort to slow the rise of airfares charged by carriers operating there.

Extends Contract Through The End Of The Fiscal Year
Saying it needs to get "more stakeholder input" on contract weather monitoring at 121 airports, the FAA said Wednesday that it plans to delay cancelling contracts with weather observers at those facilities and transferring the duties to air traffic controllers. The contracts have been extended through September 30, the end of the fiscal year.
