BTS Releases Fourth-Quarter 2006 System Airline Financial Data

A group of 21 selected passenger airlines reported a system operating profit margin of 2.6 percent in the fourth quarter, down from the third quarter but the largest fourth-quarter profit margin for this group since 1999, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the USDoT reported Monday in a release of preliminary data. The 21-carrier group consists of the seven largest network, low-cost and regional carriers based on operating revenue.

National Guard On Front Lines In Wildfire Fight

National Guard troops are responding to wildfires in Florida, Georgia, Minnesota and California, using air assets to deliver water and providing logistics and communication support. In Florida, 84 Army National Guard troops are currently activated in response to fires in Flagler County, according to information from the National Guard Bureau. Since May 5, Florida National Guard assets have flown 67 hours, 445 sorties, and dropped 379,360 gallons of water.

Airline Blames "Mud on the Airstrip"

A Paramount Airways Embraer aircraft carrying 62 passengers and the crew overshot the runway during a landing attempt at Visakhapatnam Airport Saturday. A passenger told The Siaset Daily the pilot "made a mistake in judging the landing position" and seemed to have "lost control" as the aircraft skidded onto the ground.
