The 2024 Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) World Drone Racing Championship has kicked off in Hangzhou, China. The FAI chose the Aero Sports Federation of China (ASFC), supported by the National Sports Group, to host the 2024 event. Manta Aircraft has entered a partnership with Shenyang Aviation Industries Group to develop and certify its hybrid-electric vertical/short takeoff and landing (HeV/STOL) aircraft in China.  The six-seater aircraft, dubbed the ANN Plus, aims to enhance versatility, efficiency, and sustainability in regional air transportation. Unexpected Restrictions Force Skydio to Ration Battery Supply

Prominent American drone manufacturer Skydio was recently hit with sanctions from the Chinese government, forcing it to limit battery distribution. These constraints follow Skydio’s deal to sell drones to the Taiwanese National Fire Agency. The sanctions prevent Chinese companies from working with or supplying components to Skydio.

Nearly half a ton of cocaine was discovered aboard a Bolivian-registered aircraft that landed in Argentina near Rosario. The National Gendarmerie tracked the aircraft, a Cessna 206, using radar from Santa Fe’s northern region. Authorities suspect the flight was organized by a Rosario-based drug trafficking ring whose leaders have evaded arrest since the high-profile "White Harvest" operation of 2022.

The B-29 “Doc” History Restored Tour will be making a visit to the Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport (KLAW) in Oklahoma from November 15-17, 2024, for a weekend stop. B-29 Superfortress Doc will arrive on Thursday November 14 and will be available for ground tours beginning November 15. Similar to the other 25 stops in the historic aircraft’s tour this year, visitors will be able climb up into the aircraft to tour the interior, crew compartments, and cockpit as well as book Flight Experience rides on Saturday and Sunday November 16 and 17.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 EAA Aviation Scholarships. Analysis: The airplane was observed flying around the area at an unknown time on the day of the accident, but no other information was available about the flight. At about 1800, law enforcement received a notification that aircraft wreckage was discovered on the airport property between a runway and a taxiway. There were no known witnesses to the accident. Before the aircraft was sold to the non-certificated accident pilot, the previous owner had provided the pilot with several familiarization flights and emphasized the importance of obtaining instructional lessons since he had no experience with weight-shift-controlled aircraft.
