Reduced Verdict Against North American Airlines Accepted by Plaintiff

Still Big Bucks: $12.6 Million Verdict Bargained Down to $3.1M

North American Airlines tells ANN that a post-trial ruling to reduce compensatory and punitive damages to $3.1 million from an original verdict of $12.6 million was accepted on March 14, 2006 by the plaintiff, former North American pilot Randall Otto. California Superior Court judge Robert Freedman had previously ruled on post-trial motions on March 1, 2006 and set a deadline of two weeks for Otto's decision to accept or reject the ruling.

A further hearing is scheduled for April 26, 2006 to determine liability for court costs and fees.  North American is now free to pursue its appellate options.

North American Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of World Air Holdings, is a US-certificated air carrier offering air transportation services throughout the world for the U.S. military and commercial customers. Founded in 1989, North American operates a fleet of eight passenger aircraft in charter and scheduled service.
