Quadcopter Hits Powerlines In Hollywood

About 650 People Lose Power Due To The Incident

A UAV reportedly being used by a film crew to get footage of a moving car for a reality show in West Hollywood, CA struck a powerline and knocked out power to 649 SoCal Edison customers Monday, according to numerous media reports.

An employee of the Viper Room nightclub posted photos of the aircraft on Instagram, and was the source for the information about the reality show, which was not named and has not been confirmed. The website fstoppers and others report that the power line fell after being impacted by the aircraft.

There were no injuries associated with the incident, but in the Instagram post from the nightclub employee, it was reported that the power line fell on a Cooper Mini that was damaged.

Apparently if it was a film crew, they didn't stick around for the aftermath of the incident. Ars Technica reports that Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Edward Ramirez said that the investigation is open, but while people did see the aircraft, no one saw the operator and there are no leads in the case. The remains of the aircraft were recovered by SoCal Edison.
