Dr. William LaPlante To Speak At AFA's April Air Force Breakfast

Assistant Secretary Of The Air Force For Acquisition To Provide Update On USAF Acquisitions

Dr. William A. LaPlante, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, will be the guest speaker for April's AFA breakfast series session. The Air Force Association (AFA) has scheduled the event at 7:00 a.m. on April 16, in Arlington, Virginia.

LaPlante (pictured) is the Air Force's service acquisition executive, responsible for all Air Force research, development, and acquisition activities. He oversees a research and development, test, production, and modernization program portfolio of more than $32 billion annually. He is also responsible for development and execution of policies and procedures in support of the operation and improvement of the Air Force's acquisition system.

LaPlante has more than 29 years of experience in defense technology including positions at the MITRE Corporation and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. He has also served on the Defense Science Board, U.S. Strategic Command Senior Advisory Group, and Naval Research Advisory Committee.

AFA's Air Force Breakfast Program is a monthly series that provides a venue for senior Air Force and Department of Defense leaders to communicate directly with the public and press. Past speakers include Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James; Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Mark Welsh; and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget Maj. Gen. James Martin.
