The 412th Test Wing commander, Brig. Gen. Matthew Higer, announced the 2020 Aerospace Valley Air Show in October will be a “hybrid event.” Higer announced the change to the airshow during a live-stream town hall, June 19. 2020 Coles County Airshow Cancelled Due to Pandemic Restrictions

The Show Is Scheduled Biennially

The airshow industry continues to log one show casualty after another. In the most recent case; the Coles County Airport Authority has cancelled its 2020 Airshow, previously scheduled for August 29. Airport Manager Andrew Fearn said his office and the board has been closely monitoring the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and has been in close contact with the Coles County Health Department prior to making this difficult decision.

NTSB Prelim: Vans RV8

Pilot Announced Unspecified "Engine Problems" Over The Radio

On June 12, 2020, at 1950 eastern daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Vans RV8, N553KM, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at Henry County Airport (HMP), Hampton, Georgia. The airline transport pilot was seriously injured. The flight was conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. According to the owner/operator of the airplane and several witnesses, the purpose of the flight was for the pilot to join the operator in the air for an airshow practice flight. The operator was already at altitude when the accident airplane departed.
