Rod Machado Wins George Palmer Putnam Award

The Award Was Established In 2006

The Ninety-Nines have named Rod Machado as its 2020 George Palmer Putnam Award winner at its annual meeting on July 11, 2020. The award, established in 2006 to recognize the support provided to The 99s by an individual or organization outside of The 99s, is named after Amelia Earhart's husband. Earhart was The 99s' first president. Rod's support for The 99s precedes his 33-year marriage to 99 Diane Titterington-Machado. He assists her with 99 projects, having donated training materials to winners of an aviation essay contest and working at chapter events among other activities.

Normal Takeoff Followed By Runway Impact

On July 7, 2020, about 1344 mountain daylight time, a Mooney M20TN airplane, Canadian registered C-GTVS, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at the Central Colorado Regional Airport, Buena Vista, Colorado. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. A witness, who was located at the airport, reported that he observed the airplane takeoff from runway 15 with no problems noted. The airplane then suddenly impacted the runway surface. A post crash fire ensued. The witness responded to the accident location to assist the pilot.
