U.S. Helicopter Safety Team Also Adds New Safety Experts to its Steering Committee

The first six months of 2020 have been challenging for the helicopter community and for the entire aviation industry, but one positive from the circumstances has been a decrease in accidents. From January through June 2020, the U.S. helicopter industry experienced 42 total accidents with nine of them being fatal accidents.  For the same period in 2019, there were 69 total accidents and 15 of them were accidents involving fatalities.

AD 2020-12-15 Requires A Measurement Of The Trunnion Nut Torque Of The V-Band Clamp

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Bombardier, Inc., Model BD-700-1A10 and BD-700-1A11 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that certain safety valves at the left- and right-hand sides of the cabin pressure control system were not installed correctly and that the trunnion nuts used to fasten the V-band clamp were over torqued. This AD requires a measurement of the trunnion nut torque of the V-band clamp, an inspection of the safety valve and airplane bulkhead flange area for any cracking and deformations, and corrective actions, if necessary. AD 2020-13-01 Requires A One-Time Inspection To Determine If An Affected NLG Fork Is Installed

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Daher Aircraft Design, LLC (type certificate previously held by Quest Aircraft Design, LLC), Model KODIAK 100 airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of cracks found in certain nose landing gear (NLG) forks. This AD requires a one-time inspection to determine if an affected NLG fork is installed, repetitive inspections of the affected NLG fork for cracks, repetitive inspections of the shimmy damper bracket for looseness, and of the shimmy damper system for damaged components if an affected NLG fork is installed, and rework/replacement of parts as necessary.
