A defined point
on the final approach course of a nonprecision straight-in approach
procedure from which normal descent from the MDA to the runway
touchdown point may be commenced, provided the approach threshold
of that runway, or approach lights, or other markings identifiable
with the approach end of that runway are clearly visible to the
pilot.

outlining the unusual circumstances involved in the emergecny
landing of a BK117 medical helicopter flight. The flight went awry
when its pilot suffered a scenario in which he suddenly lost the
use of his right arm. The Part 135 flight executed an emergency
landing at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station with a medical
crewmember providing control assistance under the instructions of
the stricken pilot. The helo sustained significant damage but all
three crew members emerged unscathed.
