New ISS Solar Array Deploys Smoothly

They're Celebrating In Houston... AND In Orbit

You might say Friday's successful deployment of the final set of solar array 'wings' onboard the International Space Station recharged NASA's batteries -- sending new energy throughout the combined Expedition 18 and STS-119 crews, as well as mission controllers in Houston. And, of course, the orbital complex.

Simonyi Will Be First Repeat Private Space Explorer

In preparation for his March 26 launch to the International Space Station, Charles Simonyi has outlined the mission objectives he hopes to achieve during his second visit to the International Space Station.

Launch Scheduled For This Summer

After a seven-day, 2,917-mile journey, a train carrying the four motor segments for the Ares I-X rocket arrived Thursday at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The motor is the final hardware needed for the rocket's upcoming test flight this summer.

And No... "Colbert" Is Not An Option!

NASA will post online nine names that are finalists for the agency's Mars Science Laboratory mission and invite the public to vote for its favorite. The non-binding poll to help NASA select a name opens online Monday, March 23, and will accept votes through March 29.

As previously noted, the airshow industry, and the community that supports it, is said to be a close-knit and supportive one... and if there was ever any doubt about that, it has to disappear with the upcoming Cecil Field Airshow... a celebration of aviation that has been brought about, in large part, to help and support Alan Henley (pictured right), a much beloved member of the AeroShell Aerobatic team who suffered a paralyzing injury last year while engaged in the simple act of playing with his kids.

S6 Truss Installation Complete; Solar Panels Deployment Friday

The first of three planned spacewalks during Discovery's stay at the International Space Station is in the books. On Thursday, astronauts installed the station's final truss segment, Starboard 6, containing the fourth pair of solar arrays.
