Aero-TV: Driving and Flying – The Switchblade Multi-Mode Aircraft

Innovation Comes In Many Forms... Some Of Them Quite Unexpected

While at EAA AirVenture 2015, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, stopped to get some information about a project that is in the works, but according to the developer, it’s on the way.

Jim met with Sam Bousfield, the CEO of Samson Motors Inc., and talked about a unique car…no… let’s call it a motorcycle…or maybe we should call it an airplane. This vehicle of the future is called the Switchblade.

Bousfield says they call this vehicle a multimode. He says it’s three wheeled, it drives, and it flies. While the project is still in the developmental stage, Bousfield says they have driven the ground-based prototype and it’s been proven to drive very well. The airplane part has not actually taken to the air, but Jim was told that wind tunnel tests are showing that it should do well.

Bousfield gives some background about the product concept and goes into some detail of the construction of the ground vehicle portion of the switchblade. To see the airplane part of the switchblade, the video includes some well-developed graphics that gives you a pretty good idea of what they think the end product will look like. There are a couple of other flying car projects out there, but in this video you’ll find this one is quite a bit different.

This video is fun to watch and it certainly should get your excitement juices flowing.
