Brazil's Gol Airlines Orders More 737s

Largest Contract For Boeing In Latin America

Boeing announced Tuesday it is building 20 more of its 737-800 New Generation jetliners for the Brazilian carrier Gol. This adds to the 67 aircraft already on order and moves up Gol's option to buy as many as 121 of the newest 737s.

The no-frills air carrier flies throughout Brazil and other South American companies and it operates 530 flights a day. By the end of the year, the company will have 65 aircraft and expects to have a fleet of 101 planes by 2012.

Gol Airlines recently lost one of its newest 737s when that plane was clipped by a business jet last month, with the loss of 154 people.

The 87 plane contract is the largest ever signed between Boeing and a Latin American company.
