Ill passenger Detained At MIA

CDC Determines No Infectious Disease Present

We hope this isn't a sign of things to come, in these times of heightened awareness of contagious illnesses onboard commercial airliners. An ill passenger on British Airways flight 207 from London was detained recently at Miami International Airport Monday until officials with the Centers for Disease Control determined she did not have an infectious disease.

According to Von Roebuck, a spokesman the CDC in Atlanta, the 45-year-old woman was examined on the aircraft then transported to a hospital. She is believed to have a gastrointestinal illness.

"They ruled out infectious disease," he said.

John Lampl, spokesman for British Airways, told reporters he didn't have specific details of the passenger's illness.

MIA spokesman Marc Henderson said the other passengers were allowed off the plane without incident. Miami police and fire-rescue personnel responded to the airport, along with CDC officials, according to the Associated Press.
