Falling Ice Leaves Crater In NJ Lawn

Likely Came From Passing Airplane

New Jersey residents can perhaps be forgiven for lately looking up in the skies with some trepidation.

After all, it was just under two months ago that pieces of an engine cowling off a FedEx DC-10 bound for Oakland fell onto lawns in Nutley Township... and now comes word of a 'giant ice cube' that fell out of the sky -- and onto a lawn in Brigatine -- this weekend.

The chunk of ice -- measuring approximately two feet around -- fell from the sky Saturday evening, Lt. Raymond Regantano told the Press of Atlantic City, and left a foot-deep crater in the resident's lawn.

Reganto told the Press he's pretty sure the ice came from an airplane flying overhead.

"They usually drop it over the ocean, but I guess they missed," Reganato said.

Police in Brigatine even called the FAA to see if it could help authorities track down which plane could have dropped the ice... but they were told there were too many planes in the area at the time of the incident to pinpoint which one may have dropped the ice.
