Lockheed Gets Contract To Upgrade Korean F-16 Sim Software

Training On Advanced Capabilities In High-Fi Sim Environments

Lockheed Martin announced a contract with the Republic of Korea to upgrade its Air Force’s F-16 Block 52 flight simulators with the new advanced capabilities of its upgraded F-16 aircraft. The upgrades include enhanced mission capabilities and provide high-fidelity sim environments for the Korean Air Force pilots to train like they fly.

With this contract, Lockheed Martin is to provide new equipment and systems integration to modernize the nine F-16 flight sims based at Seosan and Chungju Air Bases to the F-16V configuration along with continued support for contractor logistics services for a period of 6 years.

Todd Morar, Vice President of Air and Commercial Solutions at Lockheed Martin said, “Maximum accuracy and realism in ground-based flight training is foundational to pilot safety and mission readiness. As the manufacturer of all F-16 variants, Lockheed Martin uses the design and software data of the actual aircraft to deliver ground-based training experiences that are nearly identical to those in flight, while maintaining concurrency with the aircraft as technology evolves.”

Aviators from 16 allied countries have trained with Lockheed Martin F-16 training systems since 2001. The training suites provide a simulation-based training environment that replicates all systems, sensors, and weapons for a total training solution.

The F-16V configuration includes advanced avionics, the proven Active Electronically Scanned Array radar, a modern cockpit, advanced weapons systems, and other features that bring them close to congruity with the new F-16 Block 70 aircraft.
