EAA Announces Scholarship, Internship Opportunities

Dollars Available For Youth Interested In Aviation Careers

The deadline to apply for several EAA scholarship and internship opportunities for youth interested in pursuing aviation careers is coming up fast.

The EAA Scholarship and Internship program encourages, recognizes, and supports excellence among EAA members who are studying the technologies and skills of science and aviation. Applicants must be an EAA member or recommended by an EAA member, with consideration given to those who are well-rounded in school and community activities. The deadline to apply for scholarships and internships is February 28, 2012.

“Scholarships and internships provided through EAA offer a meaningful and substantial way to help students with a dream to become the innovators, aviators and engineers of tomorrow,” said Elissa Lines, EAA vice president of donor and business relations. “These opportunities are made available thanks to generous donors who are committed to creating the next generation of aviators.”

Among the featured internships is the DAHER-SOCATA Internship, which gives two students (one male and one female, either a college junior or senior) the opportunity to visit France for a five-week internship in June and July 2012. They will work at a DAHER-SOCATA facility and be exposed to a variety of aviation disciplines. The summer will conclude by serving as mentors at the EAA Advanced Air Academy in Oshkosh and experiencing EAA AirVenture 2012.

“We are extremely pleased to continue DAHER-SOCATA’s partnership with EAA for the sixth consecutive year,” said Nicolas Chabbert, senior vice president of DAHER-SOCATA Airplane Division and president of SOCATA North America. “The DAHER-SOCATA/EAA international internship offers a unique occasion to positively influence the thinking of young women and men. It is an eye-opening experience that underscores how aviation is a truly universal language, spanning both sides of the Atlantic – and the world.”

Several scholarships also are available that provide assistance for tuition, flight training, and attendance at EAA Air Academy sessions in 2012. Among them are the Harrison Ford Scholarship, which provides EAA Air Academy, flight training, and academic tuition awards, and the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Scholarship, which is awarded to five students who have been accepted at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with each award being $4,000 per year for five years.
