Zenith Introduces Matched-Hole CH 650 Kit

New Feature Simplifies and Streamlines Assembly Process

Zenith Aircraft recently introduced matched-hole parts for its CH 650 kit. This streamlines the aircraft’s assembly, making it a low-time project for both newbie and veteran builders.

The CH 650 kit is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The low wing, two-seat sport plane was introduced by designer and engineer Chris Heintz in 1984. According to Zenith, the CH650 is “known for its superior performance, versatility, and comfort, is now even more builder-friendly.”

In traditional aircraft kit construction, builders have to manually drill, align, and deburr holes in metal parts. This is both time-consuming and meticulous work. Matched-hole technology, however, pre-drills components at the factory to improve accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility.

“The final hole size matched-drilled technology ensures that all parts align perfectly, reducing the need for measurements and adjustments,” Zenith stated. “This advancement not only saves time but also enhances the precision and quality of the final build.”

Builders can assemble parts without extensive measuring or alignment adjustments, diminishing the need for specialized tools or extensive technical skills. Kit manufacturers, including Vans and Zenith, have started to implement this design feature over the last several years with their popular models.

"Our goal has always been to make aircraft building as straightforward and rewarding as possible," expressed Zenith Aircraft President Sebastien Heintz. “The introduction of matched-hole technology in the Zenith CH 650 kit is a game-changer for builders, allowing them to focus more on the joy of building and flying their own aircraft.”

If the pre-drilled holes aren’t quite enough, Zenith aircraft come with extensive builder support. This includes demonstration flights and hands-on workshops at its factory in Mexico, Missouri, along with the active Zenith Aircraft Builders and Flyers Forum.

The CH 650 is available as a kit through Zenith. The airframe package costs $26,995.
