EASA, FAA And TCCA Meet To Settle On Rulemaking

Talks Aimed At 'Harmonizing' Regulations Between US, EU And Canada

Experts from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the aviation authorities of the US and Canada, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), met in Cologne, Germany for a two-day meeting on April 1-2, to further improve harmonization of rules.

According to representatives with EASA, the show of transatlantic cooperation aims to align the authorities’ rulemaking programs by exchanging experience and agreeing on common priorities.

Rules of common interest, which can be jointly developed by EASA, FAA and TCCA, will be identified in order to avoid unnecessary duplication of work and maximize available resources. Constant communication during the definition and implementation of the respective rulemaking programs will ensure further harmonization.

"We share common challenges, many of which require global action," said Rulemaking Director Claude Probst. "We aim to create a level playing field to the benefit of our stakeholders."

The meeting took place as part of a partnership announced at an International Aviation Safety Conference held in June 2006.
