RIP: R. Fraser Elliott

CAE Director Passes Away

CAE says its former Chairman, R. Fraser Elliott, passed away Wednesday in Toronto. Elliott, who had served previously as Chairman of CAE, had been a director of the company since 1951.

A graduate of Queen's University, Osgoode Hall Law School, and Harvard University, Elliott was one of the two founding partners of the law firm Stikeman Elliott, where he remained a senior partner until his death. An author, patron of the arts and philanthropist, he was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1980.

"On behalf of the company’s board of directors and all of CAE’s employees, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Elliott’s family. His knowledge of the industry and of CAE as well as his strategic vision will be greatly missed," said Robert E. Brown, CAE’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

To honor Elliott’s contribution to the company, CAE had, in 2001, donated C$1 million for the creation of the "R. Fraser Elliott Scholarship and Laboratory Program" at the École Polytechnique and the Université de Montréal. As part of this program, "CAE – R. Fraser Elliott" undergraduate scholarships are awarded to third-year Engineering students at the École Polytechnique, and to Computer Science students at the Université de Montréal. In addition, the "R. Fraser Elliott Modeling and Simulation Laboratory" was established at the École Polytechnique to teach students how to create computer models of complex real-world systems involving aircraft, the environment and the human body.
