Teledyne FLIR Gets $74M For Coast Guard Upgrades

IDIQ Deal To Modernize Imaging Surveillance Systems

Teledyne FLIR Defense announced it has been awarded a five-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to provide updated modern imaging surveillance systems to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).

FLIR Defense is slated to deliver over 125 Electro-Optical Sensor System-Modernized (ESS-M) systems on USCG MH-60 and MH-65 helicopters. The advanced ESS-M platform features a full-HD sensor suite, updated user interfaces, and advanced processing capabilities as well as software enhancements that enable future growth.

The new ESS-M capability provides operators with high-def daylight, low light, and infrared imagery that will be used on all Coast Guard missions with emphasis on search and rescue, law enforcement, and living marine resources.

The updated technology will also augment coastal security, drug and migrant interdiction, protection of ports and waterways, and other rapid response needs of the Coast Guard.

Deliveries of the new systems are anticipated to begin in Q4 2025. Teledyne FLIR Defense has delivered legacy ESS systems for medium- and short-range recovery aircraft to USCG since 2005.

Dr. JihFen Lei, President of Teledyne FLIR Defense said, “The significant updates through ESS-M will enable the U.S. Coast Guard to stay on technology’s cutting edge while conducting its wide range of key maritime operations. We’re proud to extend our history of support and look forward to building our relationship across all missions areas.”
