Mission Pilots To Utilize Euramec Cessna Caravan Simulators

Training Scenarios Include Rough Terrain, Animal Avoidance

Mission Aviation Fellowship International (MAF) has signed a contract with European Flight Simulation System Builders Euramec (Euramec) to custom-build a scalable mission training solution for the Cessna Caravan.

The simulator will be based at Teuge International Airport (ICAO: EHTE) in the Netherlands and will foster MAF’s goal of cutting carbon emissions by 30% by 2035.

MAF provides the largest fraction of humanitarian flights and operates a fleet of 117 aircraft that serve about 1,500 aid, development, and mission organizations to bring emergency relief, medical care, and long-term development resources to remote or isolated communities worldwide.

Rene Don, Flight Simulator Project Lead at MAF International said, “We are very excited and proud to officially announce our partnership with Euramec for our next-generation Flight Sim solution of the Cessna C208B Caravan. Investment in this simulator will also bring cost and environmental benefits because it significantly reduces the number of hours in the air during training.”

Because the remote areas of operation are not easily available in most databases, Euramec will create tailor-made scenery with exact renderings of airstrips and airfields that MAF operates in.

The Euramec C208B flight training device (FTD) will be certified at the FTD Level 2 as specified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). It will have a 6-degrees-of-freedom motion system to enhance flight characteristics using flight test data to form the flight model.

Bert Buyle, CEO of Euramec said, "Euramec worked out a unique concept that caters exactly to the training needs for MAF pilots. The main flight training device (FTD) comes with a high-fidelity visual system with extended vertical views to allow for maximum immersion in the uniquely tough terrain MAF pilots operate in.”

MAF plans to add a second C208 FTD in Australia.
