Aero-TV: Flying The ‘Big Picture’ – Advanced Flight System’s Massive AF-5800

AFS' Massive Glass Cockpit Dominates Many A Panel

It's difficult if not downright impossible to keep up with the amazing developments that have overtaken the avionics world.... barely a day goes past without a new announcement promising here-to-fore unparalleled capabilities and gadgetry.

And, surprisingly, the Sport Aviation segment is leading the way in a number of these new technological marvels. Advanced Flight Systems has been particularly noticeable in this market segment and their humongous AF-5800 is hard to ignore.

AFS notes that any of its AFS screens can be configured as an EFIS, Engine Monitor or both if hardware modules are installed in the same screen. Connect an EFIS screen with an Engine Monitor screen using the Advanced Avionics Bus and you can display the EFIS, Engine Monitor, or both on either screen. You can even connect an EFIS/Engine Monitor screen with an EFIS screen giving you a system with multiple Attitude Heading Reference Systems (AHRS). An optional Angle-Of-Attack module can be added to the screen giving you our superior and proven AOA technology on the EFIS display.

AFS offers a gamut of features and capabilities... Remote AHRS, Battery Backup, Voice Alerts, Mapping, VFR Sectionals (Geo-Referenced), IFR Charts (Geo-Referenced), Approach Plates (Geo-Referenced), Emergency Glide information, and eve the ability to use a Custom Map Airplane -- using an image that represents your type of airplane on the mapping presentation. Other display capabilities include Weather and Traffic, XM Radio, EFIS HSI (truly WAAS Compatible), Remote Radio Tuning, Weight & Balance, Maintenance Logs, and a  Landing Gear Warning system.
