ASA Releases “Mental Math for Pilots Third Edition”

It All Adds Up …

Replete with useful tips for solving math problems without benefit of paper or calculator, Mental Math for Pilots, Third Edition, by Ronald D. McElroy improves overall pilot mathematical acumen and sharpens skills germane to the cockpit and the airline interview.

Chapter by chapter, the book hones pilots’ extemporaneous computational skills, bettering their facility vis-à-vis: fuel planning, temperature conversions, reciprocal headings, turn radii, crosswind components, time-speed-distance computations, calculating true airspeed, the sixty-to-one rule, and similarly-essential cerebral gymnastics.

The ability to solve mathematical problems in the cockpit, in real-time, and without resorting to calculators, abaci, fingers, toes, or savant SICs is an immensely useful and eminently practical addition to any aviator’s skill-set.

Mental Math for Pilots, Third Edition was written for purpose of helping pilots remain ahead of their airplanes and careers by virtue of mental math tools and shortcuts by which flight and navigation are rendered more intuitive and efficient.
