Teen Survives Alaskan Helo Crash That Claimed Four

Boy Rescued Wednesday Morning

A teenage boy was the only survivor among five people onboard a helicopter that went down Tuesday, 120 miles northeast of Anchorage, AK.

Authorities told The Associated Press the Eurocopter AS350 B2 (type shown above) crashed in heavy snow west of Sheep Mountain. The helicopter, operated by Era Aviation, was ferrying state technicians working on radio sites, according to NTSB Regional Director Jim LaBelle.

Poor weather thwarted initial search efforts, but a state patrol helicopter spotted the wreckage just before 0800 AKDT Wednesday.

Alaskan State Troopers identified the victims as pilot Benoit Pin, and passengers Thomas E. Middleton; Joseph C. O'Donnell; and Michael D. Seward.

The fifth person onboard the downed helo, 14-year-old Quinn Ellington, was airlifted to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to state patrol spokeswoman Megan Peters.
