Company Says 'Tamper-Proof' Smart Avionics In Development Would Prevent Another MH 370
InFlight Labs, LLC says it is in development of a series of "Tamper-proof Smart Avionics" that will "police or monitor" many key avionics, during all phases of flight, providing a Real-time "Air-to-Ground" Avionics Monitoring System with Air Traffic Control for continuous global aircraft tracking.
These ground breaking systems will consist of Smart ACARS, Smart ADS-B, Smart FDR, Smart ELT and Smart Transponder, the company said in a news release.
The self-powered Smart Transponder will monitor the power management of the existing aircraft Transponder so that if the device is turned off, tampered with, or experiences a power failure, Smart Transponder will immediately "squawk" the internationally recognized 7700 Aircraft Emergency Message to Air Traffic Control over a secure aircraft communication system.
In addition, the system concurrently activates the aircraft Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) and/or Smart ELT which sends a GPS-based 406 MHz emergency alert to the Global Search and Rescue (COSPAS-SAT) satellite constellation. The autonomous activation of the ELT will enable GPS and ground stations to continually track the aircraft's location. The Smart Transponder will send a detailed burst message to aviation and government authorities apprising them of the situation within moments of an incident.
Additionally, Smart Transponder (as well as Smart ADS-B and Smart ELT) may be activated "Over-the-Air" by Air Traffic Management through secure aircraft communications when a "Mayday" message is received or the aircraft stops communicating to ATC. "We feel this is the missing piece to the puzzle in modern day air travel safety," says company spokesman Joseph Bekanich.
"Whenever there is an inflight crisis, instrumentation failure or avionics anomaly anywhere in the aircraft, more than the pilot or co-pilot needs to be apprised of the situation. We feel that the ATC, FAA, Flight Monitoring Services (Aireon, ARNIC, Iridium, Inmarsat and SITA) and select government stakeholders need to be informed automatically through an 'Air-to-Ground' Avionics Monitoring System, which concurrently activates an onboard Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT/Smart ELT), to continuously track the aircraft in real-time while it is in flight," says Bekanich.
"InFlight Labs, LLC Smart Avionics will fill the void of real-time global aircraft tracking, avionics power interruptions, and device tampering concerns, making aircraft disappearing off of the ATC Monitoring System a thing of the past," said Bekanich.
