AD: Airbus SAS Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2019-24-13

PRODUCT: certain Airbus SAS Model A318 series airplanes, Model A319-111, -112, -113, -114, -115, -131, -132, and -133 airplanes; Model A320-211, -212, -214, -216, -231, -232, and -233 airplanes; and Model A321-111, - 112, -131, -211, -212, -213, -231, and -232 airplanes.

ACTION: Final rule

SUMMARY:  This AD was prompted by a report that during a maintenance check, cracks were found in a stiffener of a certain lateral window frame.

This AD requires repetitive high frequency eddy current (HFEC) inspections for cracking of a stiffener of a certain lateral window frame, and applicable related investigative and corrective actions, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference.

DATES: This AD is effective February 3, 2020.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 1,291 airplanes of U.S. registry. Operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD:

  • Required actions: Labor - 9 work-hours × $85 per hour = $765.
  • On Condition Costs: Labor - Up to 13 work-hours × $85 per hour = Up to $1,105
