Airborne-NextGen 10.08.24: Skyryse Cert, Sunglider Horus A, Lilium Fires Up

Skyryse has been granted a Special Airworthiness Certificate for its Skyryse One helicopter. This moves the aircraft one step closer to FAA certification and production launch. Skyryse One, built on a Robinson R66 frame, made its public debut in February 2024. It is an IFR-capable, triply-redundant, fly-by-wire helicopter that operates with a simple swipe on its touchscreen. AeroVironment, or AV, has successfully completed the first test flight of its Horus A Sunglider. Iconic Bomber’s History Restored Tour Will Be At Yanks Air Museum

The B-29 “Doc” History Restored Tour will be returning to Chino Airport (CNO) in California October 9-13, 2024 for a weekend stop at Yanks Air Museum. B-29 Doc will arrive on Wednesday October 9, and will be available for ground and cockpit tours as well as flight experience rides throughout the weekend. While it is on the ground, visitors can climb up inside the aircraft through the forward bomb bay door to look around, tour the bomb bay, cockpit, and crew compartments of the historic aircraft.

Textron Nexus eVTOL Flight Testing To Be At Salina

Slated To Follow Restrained Testing In 2025

Textron eAviation announced it will conduct the flight testing for the Nexus eVTOL full-scale demonstrator aircraft at Salina Regional Airport (KSLN), in Salina, Kansas, in collaboration with the Salina Airport Authority. The testing program will commence following the successful completion of initial restrained testing at the National Institute of Aviation Research facility in Wichita, Kansas, planned for 2025. Testing at Salina is designed for validation of the full performance envelope of the aircraft.

Thai AH-6 Little Bird Helicopter Successfully Completes First Flight

Royal Thai Army Buying Eight Purpose-Built Helos

Boeing announced that the first of eight AH-6 Little Bird light attack helicopters intended for the Royal Thai Army completed a successful first flight on August 22. The flight was conducted at Boeing’s Mesa, Arizona, helicopter manufacturing and testing facility. Boeing was awarded a contract through the Foreign Military Sales program of the U.S. Department of Defense for and order of eight Little Birds in 2022.

Lead Airplane In A Flight Of Two And While Flying About 50 Ft Over A River, The Airplane Struck A Power Line

Analysis: The accident airplane was the lead airplane in a flight of two and while flying about 50 ft over a river, the airplane struck a power line. The airplane abruptly pitched up, descended to the right, and impacted the water, which resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage and wings. According to a witness, the pilot had prior experience flying at low level over the river close to the accident site. The trailing pilot reported that the accident pilot did not report any mechanical failures or anomalies before the impact with a powerline.
