Changes Address Growing Financial Pressures

On October 16, Airbus confirmed plans to cut up to 2,500 jobs from its Space and Defense sector by mid-2026. The company has around 150,000 total employees worldwide. Airbus clarified that the cuts are part of its strategy to streamline organizational efforts and build accountability.

2024 Sheltair And Avfuel Awards Support Business Aviation Workforce Development

Sheltair and Avfuel announced on October 22 at the NBAA-BACE the six recipients of the 2024 Sheltair & Avfuel: Future Takes Flight Scholarships. The third annual scholarship provides a total of $30,000 in funds for education, distributed as six $5,000 awards across three categories: Learning to Fly, Aviation Technician, and Continuing Education.

Airline Accused Of Prohibiting Boarding Of Jewish Passengers

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a fine of $4 million against Lufthansa on October 15, as it accused the Germany-based airline of discrimination for preventing over 100 Jewish passengers from boarding a flight in 2022. The DOT consent order says that the incident occurred in May 2022 when Lufthansa stopped 128 Jewish passengers from boarding a connecting flight in Germany. Apparently, there was some “misconduct” by some passengers on the originating flight which departed from New York.

Access To Ground School Courses, Test Prep Questions, And Videos

Aviation Supplies & Academics announced the release of its new mobile app, the ASA Pilot Training App. The app provides access to any of the ASA Pilot Ground Schools with an existing ASA online ground school account. Students will be able to use this app on their mobile device to go through the ASA Ground Schools for the Private Pilot, Instrument Pilot, and Remote Pilot certificate or rating. Also included is comprehensive preparation for the FAA Knowledge Exams.

Induction Ceremony Scheduled for March 1, 2025

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) announced its 2025 Hall of Fame selections on October 10. The four new members will be inducted on March 1, 2025, during the CAF Conference at the Dallas Executive Airport (RBD). “These individuals have been selected for their outstanding service, dedication, and contributions to preserving aviation history,” the CAF stated. “Their remarkable careers and deep commitment to the CAF mission inspires fellow members and aviation enthusiasts worldwide.”

Second Company Approved For Part 450 License

Inversion announced it has received a Part 450 Reentry License from the FAA Commercial Space Transportation division (FAA-AST) for its Ray reentry vehicle. That makes Inversion just the second company to gain such licensure under Part 450. Securing a Part 450 reentry license is a long and rigorous process which outlines the launch and reentry regulatory requirements for commercial space transportation. 

E190F Aims to Meet Growing Air Cargo Demands

Embraer announced on October 10 that its E-Freighter, a conversion of the E190F aircraft, has received full certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This milestone follows its certification with Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) in July 2024. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification is expected to be granted later this year.

On October 8, 2024, about 1235 central daylight time, a Mooney M20E airplane, N9151V, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at the Covey Trails Airport (X09), Fulshear, Texas. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot, at about 500 ft above the ground, the pilot smelled an odor, felt a vibration, heard a boom, and the engine lost all power.
