AOPA Expo '04: Taking the Offense About Defense

Machado's Defensive Flying

By ANN Correspondent John Ballantyne

In his magnetic and humoristic way Rod Machado presented some of the defensive secrets that have kept pilots from falling victim to aviation's natural predators and enemies. He offered thought patterns to help pilots make each flight with confidence and safety.

To stop there would be to do a grave disservice to this superior presenter and truly entertaining person. About the time you think he is going to impart a heavy statistic or brain twister, he offers a hilariously relevant comment. His insightful punch lines illustrate the points vastly better than graphs or statistical printouts so often used by others.

The only horrible thought about a Machado seminar would be if you had to make a presentation in the next room at the same time. Machado draws one and all until the doorways are jammed, then makes them laugh so often and so loud that the competition hasn't a chance.

Machado is a contributor to AOPA Pilot and AOPA Flight Training Magazines, plus maintaining a rigorous speaking schedule and creating/offering recorded seminar and training programs.
