Major Concern Heard About Attrition Among Flight Instructors

One Company Cuts CFI Renewal Costs 'To The Bone'

We all probably remember our primary flight instructor. Since we spent a lot of hours with him or her shoulder-to-shoulder in an airplane cockpit, that's reasonably understandable. But an increasing number of CFI's are apparently not renewing their instructor certificates, and that is causing more than a little concern in the industry.

Bruce Micek, president of AVSeminars, recently expressed his deep concern about CFI attrition. "These are economic times when we're all reassessing expenditures. We're hearing from growing numbers of CFIs who simply aren't renewing their CFI licenses because of renewal costs versus anticipated income" says Micek. "CFIs are the true lifeblood of aviation. Whether or not they're active in the profession, each CFI loss represents one more significant step backward in the rebuilding process of general aviation."

"We're doing our best to cut renewal costs to the bone to keep all CFIs in the game", Micek concludes. To that end, Micek announced that effective July 1, 2010, all CFI Renewals will be reduced in price to $96 from $169.

The price reduction applies to both AVSeminars Webinar-based FIRCs and live seminars. The $96 price includes the FAA Temporary Airman's Certificate at no additional charge.
