GAMA Supports House Measure Funding ATC Improvements

Would Provide $15B For Investments In Staffing, Tech, Infrastructure

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association expressed support for a bill introduced in the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that would provide $15 billion for critical air traffic workforce, technology, and infrastructure investments.

In a letter to the committee Chair and Ranking Member, GAMA voiced its strong support for the funding bill, which would assist the FAA’s mission to strengthen and modernize the ATC system. It also noted Secretary Duffy’s efforts and his engagement with the Senate appropriations committees for this work.

James Viola, President and CEO of GAMA said, “There is a broad industry consensus for expedient increased investments in the U.S. air traffic control system. GAMA supports the committee proposal, being considered this week, that will provide an essential downpayment for the resources needed to modernize aviation technology and facility infrastructure and address critical air traffic controller staffing needs.

“A strong infusion of federal funds is critical to ensure that America has a safe, resilient and modern National Airspace System (NAS) now and in the future."

GAMA has also joined a broad coalition of aviation industry stakeholders known as the Modern Skies Coalition, in endorsing the committee’s provisions for air traffic control modernization.

Viola also said in his letter, “I am proud that GAMA has been a leading participant in the efforts by industry – commercial aviation, general aviation, manufacturing, labor, airports, advanced air mobility and other emerging technologies – to develop a strong consensus towards ensuring the FAA is better equipped, staffed, and prepared to manage and modernize the safest, largest, and most complex airspace system in the world and deliver economic growth and opportunity to communities across the country.

“Our industry is united in calling for immediate strong and decisive action and the legislative provision the Committee will consider this week will be a fundamental building block.”
