ODAA, FAA Provided Majority Of Funding Support For Major Improvement

Hooker Municipal Airport (O45) in Hooker, Oklahoma, celebrated the completion of a major infrastructure upgrade with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its shiny new self-serve fuel system on November 17, 2025. The new system provides both 100LL and Jet A.

The airport’s fuel tanks were outdated, unreliable, and its 100LL required frequent maintenance after the Jet A tank had already been taken out of service.

The new, modern fuel system can accommodate a variety of aircraft, from single-engine pistons and turboprop agricultural spraying aircraft, to air medical transport helicopters, and more. It provides a practical and cost-effective solution for the airport’s needs.

The project cost about $1 million and was supported financially via a collaborative effort that included the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics who provided $513,000, the FAA with another $415,000, and $97,000 from the local airport sponsor.

Grayson Ardies, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics highlighted the importance of the project, saying, “Thanks to the forethought and vision of the Oklahoma Legislature and state leadership, which have supported critical airport improvements and pro-growth aviation infrastructure initiatives across the state, we’re able to see updates like Hooker’s new fuel system. The new fuel system replaces the older infrastructure and we’re confident it will attract and better serve a greater volume of pilots and businesses in Oklahoma’s panhandle.”

Aaron Witt, Mayor of Hooker said, “This is a major step forward for the Hooker Municipal Airport. Modernizing our fueling system and providing our airport users with access to reliable equipment is a crucial investment in the future. We are excited to see the positive impact it will have on the airport and the entire Hooker community.”
