HD Video Recording Comes To GA Cockpits

Nflightcam Is A Video Cockpit Recorder

We've all shared our love of flying with pretty much anyone who'll listen. And in this age of Facebook and YouTube, it's never been easier. While a video camera is not always practical in the a cramped cockpit of a GA airplane, a mini-HD camera may change all that.

The Nflightcam is billed as a POV camera which can be mounted on the earpiece of a headset to provide a video record of what's going on during flight. With the headset mount, it records pretty much what ever the pilot is looking at, which can not only be fun to share, but could also be beneficial in a situation where there is a mechanical problem with the airplane. On its website, the company suggests that a video record of the instrument panel during flight could potentially save hours of troubleshooting with a mechanic.

For instructors, the company says the Nflightcam allows the cockpit to be brought back to the classroom or couch for review, increasing a student's rate of retention, and archiving his or her investment in training.

Nflightcam uses Vholdr’s line of ContourHD cameras. They say they picked it for its image quality in sunlight, durability, laser-alignment system, rotatable lens, removable battery and superior mounting system. The company has modified the circuit board and added an input that is compatible with an aircraft audio system. To record audio from the intercom, the camera's cable is plugged into the phone side of your headset jack and then the headset is connected to the camera cable. The company says the design is easily portable to any aircraft and our design poses no-risk to the aircraft’s systems.
