Enders To Meet With Airbus Union Reps On Power8 Progress

New Solo CEO Says He's "Ready to Take On The Challenge" Of Airbus

Airbus' new chief executive Tom Enders is getting his administration going, by getting everyone on the same page.

Enders plans to meet with union representatives from across Europe to talk about progress on the company's Power8 restructuring plan this week, according to AFX News Limited.

Launched in February of this year, the Power8 plan is designed to 'trim the fat' at Airbus in response to the A380 program delays, by cutting costs, slashing jobs, outsourcing others and selling off a number of factories, a plan German lawmakers support, as ANN has reported.

The buyers and partners Airbus has chosen are expected to be announced in September.

Enders was formerly co-CEO of parent EADS, and officially took over the solo reigns Monday. He arrived in Toulouse, France, in his new role as head of the manufacturer, saying he was "ready to take on the challenge" of turning the company around.

Airbus has stayed behind rival Boeing in order values since 2005. The company lost some $771 million last year... due, in part, to the massive A380 delays.

"Don't expect any big disruptions," Enders said. "I've been around with Airbus. I've been involved in the definition of the restructuring package and the launch of the new aircraft. I will focus all my energy on continuing the work that Louis Gallois has started."
