City Grants TX Aviation Museum Extra Time To Sell Off Items

Museum Will Hold September 29 Auction

Aero-News has learned the city of Amarillo, TX has granted the Texas Aviation Historical Society a four month extension on its lease, to give it time to allow for removal of items from the former English Field Air & Space Museum facility to be transferred to other museums.

As ANN reported earlier this week, TAHS was unable to reach a satisfactory long-term lease agreement to continue operations at the facility, named after Aviation Pioneer Harold English, who opened the airport in 1929.

All furnishings, tools, equipment and memorabilia will be sold to the highest bidder Saturday, September 29 at the current location on Highway 60 in Amarillo.

"This will not affect the auction scheduled for September 29," said the auctioneer, Col. Glenn Larson. "The City's extension of the lease agreement doesn't have anything to do with the auction. We will still have the sale as planned. This agreement simply allows the TAHS extra time to store and transfer some items that are going to other museums."

TAHS Board member Cole Camp added the City of Amarillo had been very co-operative in allowing the TAHS extra time in their lease to hold the auction, and to transfer the property assigned to other Museums.

As of September 20, aircraft still available for transfer to accredited museums include an OV-1 Mohawk, an A7C Caribou, and a "G"-model Cobra helicopter.
