Non-Instrument Pilot Was Killed August 30th Flying In Reported Instrument Conditions

Preliminary information released by the NTSB in an accident which occurred in Montana late last month indicated that the pilot of the Cessna 182 was operating his aircraft in weather conditions for which he was not rated. He was the only person on board the airplane at the time of the accident.

Phil Boyer's retirement announcement was NOT the best news we've ever had to report... but there was no arguing with the fact that Phil deserved a break (and our thanks) after working the front lines of the GA fight for the better part of two decades. To those of us who watched aviation work its way through several decades of various trials and tribulations, Phil Boyer proved himself to be the real deal... a solid leader with some serious smarts and a true passion for the world of aviation. When he decided to retire after nearly two decades of challenging leadership, we all felt poorer for the loss of his participation but could not deny the that the guy deserved to retire and enjoy his life the way that he wanted.

iChart App Turns The iPad Into An EFB

The first application from FlightPrep for the Apple iOS platform is iChart for the iPad. The iChart application allows pilots to turn their Apple iPad into an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), giving them access to Sectionals, Terminal Area Charts (TACs), Low Enroutes, and Approach Plates.

Radar Contact Lost Used by ATC to inform a pilot that radar data used to determine the aircraft's position is no longer being received, or is no longer reliable and radar service is no longer being provided. The loss may be attributed to several factors including the aircraft merging with weather or ground clutter, the aircraft operating below radar line of sight coverage, the aircraft entering an area of poor radar return, failure of the aircraft transponder, or failure of the ground radar equipment.
