Continental Motors Bullish On The Unmanned/Autonomous Segment
There are opportunities to be explored in the arena of unmanned/autonomous aviation, but Continental Motors remains committed to its "tried and true" piston products, according to company president and CEO Rhett Ross.
Speaking to Aero-News Editor-in-Chief Jim Campbell at AirVenture in July, Ross said the company has some experience in the unmanned segment. He said that recent developments in electric and hybrid motors is giving the company some ideas for potential new products. "We see ourselves playing in that," Ross said, but not necessarily immediately.
Ross said that there is enough in the pipeline for traditional aircraft designs to keep them "busy" for several years to come. "But we're going to invest in innovations ... we look at ourselves as a little bit of a venture capitalist" in those emerging technologies.
