Aero-TV: True Blue Power’s Next Generation Battery Technology

New Lithium-Ion Batteries Reduce Weight, Maintenance, and Costs

As a part of the 2024 National Business Aviation Association’s Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), True Blue Power showcased its 5th generation battery lineup. This uses lithium-ion technology to increase power available while maintaining size and decreasing weight.

True Blue’s 5th generation of batteries aim to ensure that customers “start lighter, start faster, and start smarter.” They are more compact than standard options, saving up to 85 lbs per battery, and permit smoother engine starts in all weather conditions. The built-in Battery Management System (BMS) also reduces costs by eliminating the need for maintenance checks. Gen5 batteries only require on-condition inspections and can last up to 8 years.

One of the 5th generation batteries is the TB50. It is a same-size replacement for a typical 44 amp-hour battery, containing a 50 amp-hour capacity for improved power with no space or weight sacrifices.

“We’re keeping our eye on everything, and we’re ready to evolve as the market evolves,” commented Van Winter, Vice President of Marketing and Aftermarket Sales at True Blue Power. “But the lithium iron phosphate, it’s safe, it’s proven, it’s tried and true… we feel good about where the technology is.”

As a result of True Blue’s modern developments, it was named the official battery supplier for Textron’s newly announced CJ4 Gen 3. The jet is currently still in development and is slated to enter service in 2026.
