FAA Bill Focus Of Anti-Cravaack Radio Ads

Pressure On Republican To Break Ranks, Support Union Election Rules

A series of radio ads sponsored by the Communications Workers of America has been launched in some Minnesota markets. The target of the ads is Republican Congressman Chip Cravaack, who has been in favor of the version of the long-term FAA funding bill coming out of the Republican-controlled house which supports changes in union election laws.

Minnesota Public Radio reports that, in the ads, the CWA urges Cravaack (pictured), and Wisconsin Republican Sean Duffy to break ranks with their party and vote for the version of the bill that is more favorable to the unions. Cravaack had been a pilot for Northwest Airlines before going to Congress, and had been a union steward who had participated in labor negotiations.

Cravaack told MPR that the labor provision should not hold up the FAA bill, and said "We're going to have to find middle ground to get this done." He called on the CWA to tell the Senate leadership it is OK to negotiate a compromise with the House on the union provisions of the bill.
