About 100 Ft Above Ground Level, The Engine Lost Total Power

On April 14, 2025, about 1003 Pacific daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Hy-Tek Hurricane HP, N9088G, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Elko, Nevada. The pilot sustained serious injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

The pilot reported that he had departed runway 06 at the Elko Regional Airport, Elko, Nevada. 

During the initial climb, about 100 ft above ground level, the engine lost total power. He opined that the airplane descended rapidly and collided with a metal trash receptacle. The fuselage structure was substantially damaged. About 5 gallons of light blue colored fuel were drained from the aircraft during the wreckage recovery.

The wreckage was recovered to a secure area for further investigation.
