Durban Land, Sea, And Air Festival In South Africa Cancelled

Financial Support For The Event Dried Up

Another aviation event has been cancelled because of a lack of financial support.

The Land, Sea, and Air Festival in Durban, South Africa has been "indefinitely" cancelled after government funding was pulled and the event's organizers were unable to secure adequate private funding.

Traveller24.news.24.com relays a report from Durban news which indicates that in a joint statement, Sport Unplugged and Total South Africa ... said "Due to the high cost of delivering a quality international aviation event, coupled with time constraints, Total South Africa and Sport Unplugged regret to advise that the Land Sea & Air Festival and their involvement in the event, scheduled for 1 May 2015 has been indefinitely cancelled.”

The free event had reportedly drawn over 100,000 people to the coastal town and reportedly provided a major economic boost to the region.

Organizers said that spectator safety was also among the considerations that went into the decision to cancel the event.
