Delta Loses Traveler's Pet

The Dog Was Traveling From Mexico To Canada With Its New Owners

It's traumatic enough when an airline loses your luggage, but something else entirely when the lost item is a Jack Russell terrier mix on his way to a new home. But that's what happened to Paco, who was on a Delta flight with his new owners on their way home from Mexico to Canada.

Josiah Allen and his girlfriend last saw Paco in Mexico City on a five-hour layover between flights. They had spent considerable time, money, and effort in getting the dog his shots and papers to enable him to make the international flights. But somewhere between Mexico City and Detroit, Paco vanished.

The blog Dogster writes that Delta told Allen that Paco had not made the flight, but was being cared for by Delta employees and would be delivered to Ontario, where Allen lives, the next day. But when Paco still didn't show up, Delta told Allen that he had accidentally escaped the day before, and that was why he had gone missing in the first place.

Allen says it would have been very difficult for Paco to "escape" from the carrier in which he was being transported. He also wonders why he was told Paco was safe and sound if that wasn't the case.

Delta has reimbursed Allen the cost of Paco's transportation, and offered to pay for the shots he got in Mexico. But for now, Paco remains a missing pooch.
