Tamarack Completes Inaugural Citation M2 Gen 2 Upgrade

Giddy-Up!

Idaho-based Tamarack Aerospace Group’s SMARTWING technology provides transformative performance improvements for both new aircraft designs and extant models.

The lightweight retrofit—which requires no airframe structural reinforcements—has been installed on over 160 Cessna Citation jets, and will soon be available for Beechcraft’s longtime best-selling King Air twin-turboprop aircraft.

In September 2022, Tamarack announced the first SMARTWING upgrade of Cessna’s Citation M2 GEN2—an aircraft Cessna’s parent company, Textron Aviation, asserts will: “… usher in the next generation of aircraft design and technology, increasing comfort and productivity for passengers and pilots.”

Tamarack initially secured FAA certification for its Active Winglet upgrade—a component of the SMARTWING system—for the Citation M2 in 2015.

Collectively, the FAA and EASA certified SMARTWING modification improves high and hot take-off performance, boosts aircraft climb-rate, enhances high-altitude and landing stability, and increases range by decreasing both drag and fuel-burn.

The Citation M2 Gen 2 is the latest in Cessna’s CE525 family of aircraft, which comprises the Citation CJ, CJ1, CJ1+, and M2. The common platform on which the aforementioned aircraft are based has been continuously upgraded since the CitationJet’s initial FAA certification in 1992.

Tamarack president Jacob Klinginsmith states: “We’re thrilled to work with the most recent GEN 2 models as well going forward. This is an outstanding aircraft and we’re proud to serve our customers by adding some performance and offering another level of safety for their families or in their charter operations.”

Mr. Klinginsmith’s enthusiasm is shared by M2 Gen 2 owner J.R. Spalj, who asserts: “I knew when I ordered my M2 GEN 2 that I wanted the Tamarack upgrade. First of all, it looks amazing with the Tamarack winglets, and the fuel savings and range increase were key parts of the decision too.”
