Navy Pulls Video Showing Carrier's Nuclear Reactor Room Off YouTube

Officials Concerned Shots Show "Lack Of Propriety"

Apparently reluctant to air its dirty laundry, the Navy has pulled a video shot by an airman posted on the video sharing website YouTube.

According to a Navy spokesperson, the video -- posted May 23, entitled "Women of CVN76: 'That Don't Impress Me Much,'" and shot aboard the USS Ronald Reagan -- was not sanctioned by the ship's commanders or the Navy.

The problem the Navy is having is the fact the video shows sailors using safety equipment inappropriately... such as someone dancing while dressed in a full-body radiation suit. Other concerns are the shots that briefly show the door to the ship's nuclear power plant, according to the Associated Press.

A Pentagon rule says no part of a ship's nuclear plant can be shown to foreign nationals.

Lt. Cmdr. Charlie Brown, a spokesperson for the San Diego-based Naval Air Forces command said Navy commanders have counseled the airman that shot the video and officials were just worried about the "lack of propriety" regarding use of the safety equipment, but also notes nothing in the video compromised operational security.

"The video was a lighthearted and positive depiction of the service of women officers and sailors aboard aircraft carriers and in Navy squadrons," he said.
