New ANG RPA Facility Opened In Battle Creek, MI

Ribbon Is Cut On Drone Command Center Saturday

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held recently at the Air National Guard base in Battle Creek, MI marking the opening of a new command center for the MQ-9 Reaper Remote Piloted Aircraft.

Television station WWMT reports that the aircraft will be flown around the world by operators working at the Michigan base. Officials say that the primary mission will be intelligence gathering, but the aircraft do have weapons capability as well.

Among those attending the ceremony officially opening the $6.5 million facility was U.S. Senator Gary Peters, who praised the operation and the military personnel who come to Battle Creek as "some of the best men and women in the military."

The MQ-9 is expected to become operational in February of next year.
