F-117s Arrive In South Korea

Much To The North's Consternation

At least some of the 15 Stealth Fighters headed for South Korea have arrived, according to a military spokesman, amid rising tensions over North Korea's nuclear arsenal.

"The deployment has begun but it has not been completed," said a USAF spokesman in a statement to Reuters. The question is, are these aircraft in addition to or replacing the two dozen F117As now in South Korea?

On that, the US military wouldn't comment.

The USAF says there's no connection between the arrival of the Stealth aircraft and the ongoing nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula. But Pyongyang propagandists are shrilly denouncing the arrivals, saying they mark a prelude to a US-led invasion of the North.
